‘Shocking state of affairs’ blast punters after watching Aidan O’Brien horse win in a ‘cakewalk’
PUNTERS were livid after watching an Aidan O’Brien trained horse bolt up a mammoth 20 lengths clear in a big race at the Curragh.
Grosvenor Square’s insane win in the Group 3 Irish St Leger Trial Stakes on Saturday led some punters to believe the horses in behind had all but given up.
But others reckoned the talented three-year-old, who set off odds-on favourite under top jock Ryan Moore, is the new superstar on the block.

Both sides took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to give their two-pence on the matter.
One said: “Joke of a race – nothing trying in behind it.”
And another fuming fan added: “More like a morning work out for riders, shocking state of affairs.”
And one, who took the opportunity to vent about O’Brien’s dominance, said: “I wonder how long before all the major races will just have O’Brien runners in it, can’t be long.”
For every angry fan there was another in awe of the Irish trainer’s latest winning machine.
One said: “Great horse – future cup winner.”
And in his post-race interview O’Brien, 54, not only defended the other jockeys but also heaped praise on his horse.
He said: ” It’s hard to know what to do against this horse, do you follow him or don’t you?”
“He has serious stamina when he gets into a rhythm, he’s an exciting horse.
“Ryan said he was far from finished, he galloped right through the line.
“It’s very hard not to go to the St Leger at Doncaster in September after that performance.
“He is a very uncomplicated horse and he handled that ground and he handles soft ground well.”
Grosvenor Square has been unable to get get his nose in front all season and came a sorry seventh out of eight in this year’s Irish Derby.
But since his storm around the Curragh, he’s been smashed into 12-1 joint-favourite with one bookie for the Melbourne Cup on November 5
He’s also 6-1 for the St Leger behind three more O’Brien horses, Jan Brueghel, Los Angeles and Illinois.
