Roku fan admits ‘I’ve cancelled all my streaming services’ with free TV trick that unlocks over 200,000 shows and movies

ROKU fans say they’ve cancelled their streaming services after discovering an enormous trove of free televisions.

TV watchers are avoiding paying monthly bills with a list of legal alternatives that don’t cost a penny.

No matter which device you’re using for Roku, there’s a long list of free channels to enjoy[/caption]

That’s because plenty of apps now offer free content if you’re willing to watch ads.

It’s a stark contrast to the likes of Netflix, Disney+, HBO’s Max, and Amazon Prime Video, all of which have paid plans that show you commercials anyway.

But despite that change, many other apps are making their entire libraries of content free – including vast selections of live channels.

In a Reddit thread, one Roku fan wrote: “There’s no need to pay for any TV/streaming service these days.

“Bought a TV with a Roku built in and I’ve found the Roku app and all the free live TV the thing provides more than satiates all my desire for television.

“I’ve canceled all my streaming services.

“A lot of their content is older syndication and if you want the latest popular stuff you need to buy all streaming services, but this is more than enough content for me.”

Another said: “Yep, I canceled everything too and am using Roku.”

Several users shared their top picks for watching free TV.

Pluto TV was named several times, which is no surprise given how popular the app is.

The app offers more than 250 live channels, as well as “thousands” of TV shows and movies on-demand.

Tubi was another hit among Roku fans, with its vast library of over 250,000 movies and TV episodes.

And it has more than 260 channels on offer.

Amazon Freevee has over 3,000 movies and 450 TV series, plus more than 400 channels.

Plex was also named and serves up more than 800 channels, plus over 50,000 on-demand titles.

Here’s a list of some of the top picks in alphabetical order:

  • Amazon Freevee
  • FilmRise
  • Fox Local
  • Fox Weather
  • Haystack News
  • PBS
  • Plex
  • Pluto TV
  • Sling Freestream
  • The Roku Channel
  • Tubi
  • Xumo

Another option recommended on the Reddit thread was “rotating” paid-for apps.

Stream swapping – the easy way to cut your bills?

Here’s what Sean Keach, The Sun’s Head of Technology and Science, thinks…

It’s no secret that TV streaming apps are costing more and more.

Not only are prices shooting up, but we find ourselves asked to pay for an increasing number of apps and services.

And when you combine those TV bills with your music streaming, mobile and internet fees, and every other drain on your bank account, it all starts to get a bit much.

One of the best ways to cut your TV bills is to simply cancel all of your streaming subscriptions and only sign up to one per month.

Pick an app like Netflix, Disney+, or Apple TV+ and smash through all of the content you want to watch on that app.

Then the next month, swap to something else.

And once you’ve done them all, you can cycle back to the start again.

It’s an easy way to avoid forking out for a rolling library of streaming apps with more content than you could possibly watch.

Also don’t forget that paid-for streaming isn’t the only game in town.

There are loads of apps that don’t cost a penny to enjoy, and downloading a few will unlock thousands of live TV channels plus tens of thousands of movies and shows.

Try apps like Tubi, Amazon Freevee, The Roku Channel, Plex, and Pluto TV to get some ad-supported television without having to pay any monthly fees.

They wrote: “I just rotate each streaming service every few months.

“No streaming service creates enough content all year to warrant a 12 month subscription.”

We’ve recommended this on The U.S. Sun, as it’s a great way to save on your monthly bills.

You simply subscribe to one service and binge-watch all of the content you want to enjoy.

Then you cancel it and move on to another, and another after that. By the time you get back to the first app, you’ll have fresh content to watch again.
