Postecoglou climbed three places with Spurs last campaign

Tottenham’s fast start to their debut season under new manager Ange Postecgolou was well documented with Spurs only dropping four points in their first ten games, including enough last-minute winners and exciting performances to convince fans.

Spurs fizzled out towards the end of last season, at one point losing four straight games which was a stark contrast to Postecoglou’s flying start to life in North London.

Poor late-season form ultimately cost Spurs a top-four finish, although there was progression from the club’s 8th-place finish in the campaign prior.

There is reason for optimism regarding Postecoglou’s second season at Tottenham as the Australian notoriously takes a season or so to get his sides firing, securing the Scottish treble with Celtic in his second campaign.

Postecoglou is hopeful for Tottenham’s silverware chances

The 58-year-old Spurs manager has been upbeat about the state of his squad for the upcoming season at Tottenham. He told Sky Sports: “Usually in my second season, I win things. That’s the whole idea.

“First year is about establishing principles and creating a foundation. Hopefully, the second year is going on to win things.

“Of course, it’s easier said than done, particularly in the Premier League and the competitions we’re in. But, that’s always the way I’ve looked at it, is that the second year you should be in a position where you can push on, depending on how the first year has gone.

“Last year we had some really good moments, obviously we also had some tough moments. I think we learnt as much from the tough moments as we did from the good stuff and hopefully, that means we’re in a good place.

“We’re definitely a better-prepared team than we were last year”.

Spurs Web opinion

Personally, I’m extremely excited about the second season under Ange Postecoglou. Tottenham have done well to sell a large volume of players this summer, many of whom were clearly either not suitable for Postecoglou’s system or didn’t believe enough in it to remain a Spurs player.

There does need to be some more additions, which I hope are likely before the season ends, but as Postecoglou said: the second season is typically when his sides start to find their rhythm.
