New ‘eight-island’ resort to open in the Maldives – with three hotels, underwater restaurant and marina

A MASSIVE new luxury attraction is opening in one of the world’s major bucket list destinations, offering a whole new world of accommodation to the super wealthy.

By 2026, the Zamani Islands in the Maldives will be home to three new resorts, along with the country’s first dedicated superyacht marina.

The aim of the resorts is to attract “more high-net-worth individuals and yachting enthusiasts to the region” – with hopes they will be keen to make use of the new five-star development.

The high-end accommodation is being built in almost 500 hectares of natural lagoon, found in the South Malé Atoll.

Though that may sound remote, it’s only around 21 miles from the capital city, Malé, and its airport, meaning it may well appeal to visitors, particularly as they will be given lifelong berthing at the marina.

As if that isn’t attractive enough, it will also have the country’s largest underwater restaurant, which will be one of 28 different dining venues.

The three resorts will be spread out across eight different islands in the lagoon, with its first phase set to be launched by Spring 2026.

It promises a collection of private estates and mansions, 14 of which are available for residential purchase.

They will each have “spacious entertaining zones” and will be “strategically positioned to capture the best Indian Ocean views”.

The development’s website boast of each villa having multiple-private pools across different levels, as well as screening rooms, as well as personal spa and wellness areas.

A personal butler service will be available in each of the properties as well.

The superyacht marina will additionally provide full-service facilities to yacht owners, including crew amenities, provisioning, maintenance and access to a yacht club.

Meanwhile, the second of the three resorts is described as being “multi-experiential” and is aimed at families and couples.

It will have its own adults-only private island beach club, for those looking to relax in peace by the sea.

Meanwhile, the third of the resorts is described as a “lifestyle” resort, and will be home to the Maldives’ biggest events and entertainment venue, once it is finally opened.

Amit Majumder, co-founder and managing partner of Atoll Estates, the UAE company behind the new resorts, hopes to establish the Maldives as a “premier yachting destination”.

He told the Telegraph: “By providing state-of-the-art facilities for superyachts, the marina will attract more high-net-worth individuals and yachting enthusiasts to the region.

“The increased yachting traffic will foster the development of related services and infrastructure, further establishing the Maldives as a premier yachting destination on the global stage.”

However, not everyone is quite so convinced, including Splinter Fangman, a yacht and berth broker at Edmiston, who labelled the new development as “a gamble”.

He added: “For the past 20 years, the Maldives’ private resort tourism model has proven highly profitable and pretty low risk. With a superyacht marina, it’s still a gamble whether the yachts will actually use it.”
