Book-to-screen adaptations have become more popular in the last few years, with domestic thrillers being one of the leading genres.

Peacock is adapting All Her Fault, one of the most infamous mystery novels of the past few years, into a limited series.

While details about the series are still scarce, we have gathered some important details even in these early stages, so read on as we break it all down.

During Peacock’s Winter TCA press tour, the streaming platform gave All Her Fault a straight-to-series order.

What is All Her Fault About?

All Her Fault is adapted from Andrea Mara’s 2021 novel by the same name.

It follows Marissa as she learns her young son is missing, and like many communities, soon rumors and accusations fly.

In Chicago, Marissa Irvine arrives at 14 Arthur Avenue, expecting to pick up her young son Milo from his first playdate with a boy at his new school. But the woman who answers the door isn’t a mother she recognizes. She isn’t the nanny. She doesn’t have Milo. And so begins every parent’s worst nightmare.

From other book-to-screen adaptations of dramatic suspense we’ve seen, fans of Liane Moriarty’s Big Little Lies will surely enjoy this, too.

How Does All Her Fault Compare to the Novel?

Andrea Mara’s novel All Her Fault was listed as one of the Sunday Times’ best crime-fiction novels in 2021, mainly due to its intriguing, emotional plot and well-developed characters.

It examines blame from multiple perspectives, first from Marissa, who wonders why she allowed her son Milo to be picked up from school by someone she never met.

However, we also read Jenny’s voice and fear about what happened, so it’ll be interesting to see if that also applies in the TV series.

The book-to-screen adaptation differs slightly in that the book takes place in Dublin, while the TV series takes place in a Chicago suburb.

Detective McConville is a female in the book, while they gender-swapped the character to be male in the series.

It may not be important, but it’s an interesting tidbit.

How Many Episodes Will All Her Fault Have?

We don’t know how many episodes All Her Fault will have, but most limited series have around eight.

Who Stars In All Her Fault?

Since the project was announced in February, several cast announcements have trickled in, and we have gathered information about which characters they will portray.

Sarah Snook (Succession) as Marissa Irvine, who lives every parent’s worst nightmare when her son goes missing.

Dakota Fanning (Ripley) as Jenny, the mom of the child whom Marissa’s son was supposed to be on a playdate with.

Abby Elliot (The Bear) as Lia. We don’t know much about Lia’s character yet, but we’re speculating it’s important since Abby Elliot was announced with Dakota Fanning.

Sophia Lillis (I Am Not Okay With This) as Carrie, Jenny’s nanny.

Jake Lacy ( Apples Never Fall) as Peter Irvine, Marissa’s husband.

Michael Peña (Jack Ryan) as Detective McConville, the cop assigned to the case.

Who are the Creatives Behind All Her Fault?

Megan Gallagher (Wolf) serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer.

Gallagher has worked on Wolf and penned episodes on Apple TV + Suspicion, both of which dealt with lives being upended after a kidnapping or death of a child.

She’ll have experience dealing with these difficult, emotional arcs.

Besides being the lead actress, Sarah Snook will also be the series’s executive producer.

Andrea Mara, the book’s author, will serve as one of the associate producers.

Other EPs include Nigel Marchant, Gareth Neame, and Joanna Stevens for Carnival Films (The Day of the Jackel).

Minkie Spiro ( Downton Abbey) will direct the first episode.
