Will Michelle Obama Speak at the DNC?

This year’s Democratic National Convention is underway in Chicago, and the list of celebrities and politicians showing up to support Kamala Harris keeps growing. NBC reports that Michelle Obama will speak in a prime-time slot in her hometown on Tuesday night.

As Democrats try to keep the momentum behind Harris up, Obama — who consistently ranks as one of the most popular Democratic figures in the country — is an obvious choice to get people excited. She has spoken at every DNC since her husband became the Democratic nominee in 2008, and her speeches have become something of a convention staple. She uttered the now-infamous “when they go low, we go high” line in her 2016 convention speech, while her 2008 speech was impactful enough that Melania Trump copied it nearly word for word eight years later.

Although the speaker list for the whole week isn’t set, the Washington Post reports that confirmed convention speakers include President Joe Biden and Jill Biden, Hillary Clinton, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who will all speak on Monday. Barack Obama and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff are slated to speak on Tuesday, per the Post, while USA Today reports Bill Clinton will take the stage on Wednesday.

Last month, the Obamas endorsed Kamala Harris, with Michelle saying, “I’m so proud of my girl, Kamala. Barack and I are so excited to endorse her as the Democratic nominee because of her positivity, sense of humor, and ability to bring light and hope to people all across the country. We’ve got your back.”
