Which Celebrities Will Be at the DNC?

It’s Democratic National Convention week, and unlike with the RNC, there are actual A-listers pulling up to Chicago’s United Center. Kamala Harris won’t have Hulk Hogan to rip his shirt off in support, but she will have celebrities like Kerry Washington and Mindy Kaling in her corner. Over the next week, we’ll be keeping tabs on which stars roll through to get a selfie with Doug Emhoff or do the “Apple” dance with Tim Walz. Let’s hop into it!

Kerry Washington

If you know one thing about Washington, it’s probably that she spent seven seasons playing D.C. fixer Olivia Pope on Scandal. If you know a second thing about her, it’s that she is a Democrat. She hosts fundraisers, she knocks on doors, she frequently posts about making sure you’re registered to vote. Of course she was going to make an appearance at the DNC, and she secured a good spot too. Washington is one of the hosts of the convention (meaning she’ll open up the broadcast with some remarks and appear throughout the evening) alongside Tony Goldwyn, Mindy Kaling, and Ana Navarro. Washington will be hosting Thursday night, when Harris accepts the nomination and delivers her speech.

Tony Goldwyn

Shonda Rhimes was putting something in the water on the set of Scandal, because why is Goldwyn also obsessed with Democratic politics? Goldwyn will be hosting Monday night, when President Joe Biden is scheduled to speak. The easy money is on Goldwyn making a joke about how playing a president on TV is much easier than doing it in real life.

Mindy Kaling

Kaling is hosting on Wednesday, when Tim Walz makes his speech. I see they’ve paired the comedians together.

Ana Navarro

The View host and former Republican will take the stage on Tuesday. Joining her on the schedule are Barack and Michelle Obama, who are maybe making a speech together? I can’t really tell.

“I can’t tell you how much it means to me,” Navarro said in an Instagram video. “Look, I’m a little refugee girl who fled communism, who fled Nicaragua at the age of 8, found freedom, found opportunity, found a home in America. And for me to have the chance to stand on that stage and help my girl Kamala make history and become the Democratic nominee, it’s just such a mind-blowing moment.”

The Obamas

Barack and Michelle are scheduled to appear on Tuesday, but as I just noted, it’s unclear if they’re speaking together or taking turns. The theme of Tuesday night is “A Bold Vision for America’s Future,” so maybe their bold vision is two people giving a speech together. We’ll see.

The Clintons

Meanwhile, Bill and Hillary Clinton are taking separate nights. Hillary is making her appearance on Monday, while Bill scored a better spot on Wednesday just before Walz. Perhaps the Obamas stuck together because they didn’t want it to be obvious who the DNC likes more.
