Chase DeLauter heating up, homers for third consecutive game as Guardians affiliates sweep

Cleveland Guardians minor league recap for Monday, Aug. 19, 2024

Columbus Clippers 7, Iowa Cubs 2

Box Score · Clippers improve to 61-57

The Clippers have been on a role as of late and they continued their winning ways on Sunday thanks to some stellar starting pitching and some timely hitting and baserunning.

Starting pitcher Ryan Webb led the way with 5 23 shutout innings. He allowed just one hit and struck out four while walking two. He has a 0.82 ERA since being promoted to Triple-A earlier this month. Not too shabby of a start for the left-handed hurler.

Andrew Walters, Tanner Burns and Andrew Misiaszek all were excellent out of the pen before Anthony Gose ran into trouble in the ninth inning and needed a one-out rescue from Randy Labaut.

Offensively, the Clippers only had five hits, but they walked nine times and stole four bases. Myles Straw went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs scored. Angel Martinez tripled and walked. Kyle Manzardo walked twice while Gabriel Arias doubled and walked. George Valera doubled and Bryan Lavastida walked, was hit by a pitch, stole a base and had a sacrifice fly. Raynel Delgado walked twice and stole a base.

Akron RubberDucks 6, Erie SeaWolves 5

Box Score · RubberDucks improve to 66-48

Akron got just what it needed from a patient offense that did a great job of getting on base as the RubberDucks had eight walks to go along with seven hits on Sunday.

Chase DeLauter led the way, walking twice and also hitting a home run (off of one of the top pitching prospects in baseball btw).

C.J. Kayfus followed with a three-run bomb in the seventh inning (but also struck out four times).

Kahlil Watson went 2-for-5 while Guy Lipscomb went 1-for-1 with a double, three walks and a stolen base. Joe Lampe tripled and stole home.

Starting pitcher Austin Peterson had some great strikeout stuff as he whiffed nine batters while walking none, although he did get tagged for three runs on five hits in five innings of work.

Magnus Ellerts struggled in the sixth inning but Davis Sharpe, Ross Carver and Zane Morehouse slammed the door with three scoreless innings of work to preserve the win.

Lynchburg Hillcats 4, Down East Wood Ducks 3

Box Score · Hillcats improve to 61-51

Another game, another patient approach from a Guardians affiliate as Lynchburg walked seven times and had five hits in its 4-3 victory on Sunday.

Tommy Hawke walked twice from the leadoff position while Welbyn Francisca doubled and Jaison Chourio led the way offensively by going 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs batted in.

Catching prospect Logun Clark also doubled and walked to reach base safely twice.

Starting pitcher Kyle Scott was sensational, striking out five and walking none in six innings of work. He allowed just one run on four hits.

Reny Artiles closed out the victory by pitching two scoreless innings of relief to earn a multi-inning save.

Lake County’s game was postponed due to weather.
