Albany International creates new wayfinding option

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Anyone flying out of Albany International Airport can soon find their gates, restaurants, and parked vehicles just by scanning a QR code. In partnership with Pointr, a global technology company, passengers navigate the airport while construction is ongoing.

Albany International is the first airport to offer instant wayfinding. The "Mark My Car" feature saves passengers' parking spot information by scanning a QR code rather than downloading an app.

According to Albany International Airport CEO Phil Calderone, removing the need to download an app makes it easier and faster for passengers to find their gate, baggage carousel, and more. He said it's a unique travel experience.

"This technology furthers the airport's goals for being known as the smartest, safest, most accessible and passenger friendly airport in the Nation," he said. "At ALB we continue to set new standards for airports nationwide."

The airport plans to make the new technology operational soon. More information about Pointr and a demonstration of how the process works can be found online.
