Four-year-old seriously injured in Limassol accident

A four-year-old child is intubated at Makarion children’s hospital in Nicosia on Tuesday after a serious collision between two cars in Limassol overnight.

A total of seven people were injured in the accident and a 62-year-old passenger is also in critical condition at Nicosia general hospital, following a head trauma.

One car had been driven by a 66-year-old man, with two adult passengers, aged 62 and 28, and small boys, aged three and four, on board. The other was being driven a 74-year-old woman with a 78-year-old passenger.

All involved in the accident were injured and all, except the four-year-old, were initially taken to the Limassol general hospital. The four-year-old child was taken to a private clinic where he was intubated and then on to Nicosia.

The 74 and 78-year-old couple were kept at Limassol general hospital while the 62-year-old was transferred to Nicosia for further treatment.

The three-year-old is being kept in hospital for monitoring, while the 66 and 28-year-old were released after receiving first aid.

The car driven by the 74-year-old appears to have collided with the car driven by the 66-year-old at the junction of Spyros Kyprianou Avenue and Kosti Palama street, shortly before 8pm. Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.

No child seats were being used and the children were not wearing safety belts, police reported.
