Postecoglou provides positive update on Rodrigo Bentancur after head injury
His Tottenham Hotspur side threw away two points against Leicester City in the first game of the new Premier League season tonight, but Ange Postecoglou at least had some positive news to share regarding Rodrigo Bentancur, who suffered a severe head injury in the game.
Bentancur is talking again
Tottenham could and should have had the game out of sight by half-time in truth, with a slew of chances created and spurned. The Lilywhites could only go in at the break one goal to the good, thanks to a Pedro Porro goal.
A Jamie Vardy header just before the hour mark levelled the scores and turned the game in Leicester’s favour for a while.
Then, a long break due to a concussion concern for Rodrigo Bentancur halted proceedings and disturbed the rhythm of the game. Unfortunately, Spurs were unable to get back control of the match and had to settle for a point.
Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event (19/8/24) after the match, Postecoglou was asked about Bentancur’s situation and revealed the Uruguayan has shown positive signs since coming off the pitch.
He said: “I haven’t spoken [to anyone about it] but obviously it’s a head injury so we have to be really careful. The good news was that he was up and about and talking.
“We’ll let the medical team take charge of that.”
King Power Stadium curse strikes again
Bentancur will have bad memories of playing at Leicester’s King Power Stadium after suffering his season-ending injury there in February 2023.
It remains to be seen just how serious Bentancur’s situation is this time around, and whether any concussion suffered will keep him out of training in the aftermath.
Spurs Web Opinion
It’s never nice to see a player injured, but you have to especially feel for Bentancur who just can’t seem to get a run of minutes these days.
Hopefully, it’s just an issue for tonight, and he can get back in training asap this week so he’s ready for the games ahead.
