Re: torn rotator cuff surgery

Rags
Has anybody had this done ?

whats it like

8 weeks off work - 8 weeks not driving - 12 weeks before heavy lifting - easy and simple operation where the actual recovery work done by yourself is the most important part. Don't take shortcuts, don't get bored and stop the exercises (they have been designed by professionals)

I had a very very serious accident in 1988 and was off work for 22 weeks - so the rotator cuff part was the least of my worries compared to the many breaks.

Talk to your physiotherapist about water therapy in addition to the standard offerings - some hospitals (i did my courses at Good Hope) have pools and the exercises in the pool (ie where you are "weightless") were tremendously beneficial and then going to local pool in the daytime too.

Longterm recovery will be fine if you are sensible and actually do what your physiotherapist tells you to - use the 8 weeks to get fit by walking and changing your diet as well as learning new skills

thanks for the info , btw i did it in a very low speed bike accident ( all my fault ) getting fit :-) the irony is not lost on me :-)
