Snow possible this weekend at Yosemite and on other Sierra passes

A dusting of snow is possible this weekend on the higher Sierra Nevada passes, the National Weather Service says.

With a drop in temperatures and a chance of showers expected Friday and Saturday, snow could fall as low as 8,000 feet elevation from the Tahoe area south to Mammoth Lakes.

Yosemite’s Tioga Pass, at 9,943 feet, has a 43% chance of 0.1 inch of snow and Tuolumne Meadows a 34% chance, the agency’s Hanford office said.

Also high enough for a trace of snow are Mount Rose summit, Carson Pass near Kirkwood, and Monitor and Sonora passes. The chance of precipation is around 40% Friday and Saturday.

Highs at South Lake Tahoe are expected to drop from the 70s Tuesday and Wednesday to low 50s on Friday. The overnight low at lake level will be close to freezing Friday night, the weather service said. Saturday’s forecast is a few degrees warmer.
