Patriots Reportedly Working Out These Defenders Before Trimming Roster

The New England Patriots have to trim their roster down next week, but they're gaining some intel on a few free agent players beforehand.

NFL reporter Aaron Wilson on Tuesday reported the Patriots were working out three players including defensive ends Chris McCarroll and Kobe Jones as well as edge rusher Max Roberts.

A product of Boston College who graduated in 2020, Roberts started his NFL career in 2021 as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Rams. The 27-year-old recently played in the UFL for the Memphis Showboats and has not appeared in an NFL game.

McCarroll was named the Defensive Lineman of the Year in the All-American Conference. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound McCarroll is a product of Grand Valley State who tallied 151 tackles and 31.5 tackles for loss in his collegiate career.

Jones, 26, has spent time with the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and Green Bay Packers.

The Patriots have Keion White, Anfernee Jennings, Joshua Uche and Deatrich Wise headlining their depth chart at the position. New England traded edge rusher Matthew Judon to the Atlanta Falcons last week.
