Jamie Vardy explains why he taunted Spurs fans in Leicester City draw

When asked about the gesture he made towards Spurs fans on Monday night, Jamie Vardy has insisted that he was merely responding to the stick he was getting from the Tottenham faithful.

Leicester City 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur

The travelling section at the King Power Stadium certainly found their voices in the first half as Tottenham were utterly dominant, with Leicester struggling to even get a kick.

However, they were not able to make their dominance count, taking a slender 1-0 lead into the interval, and the home side made them pay in the second half.

It was Vardy who scored the equaliser for the Foxes against the run of play, ghosting into the far post unmarked on 57 minutes and turning the ball home past Guglielmo Vicario.

Why did Jamie Vardy taunt the Spurs fans?

The Englishman was taken off by Steve Cooper in the dying stages of the game but as he walked off the pitch, he signalled 1-0 to the Spurs fans to taunt them about the fact that he has won more Premier League titles than the Lilywhites.

When asked about his gesture, the Leicester man said after the game (via Irish Independent): “You take a bit of stick during the game. As long as they can take it when I give it back then it’s all good.”

It did not really sound like the travelling fans were giving much stick to Vardy through the game. It just seemed like an unprovoked gesture from the striker.

For some strange reason, Leicester fans and their players have always tried to get a rivalry going with Spurs since the 2015-16 season, which is why I was not surprised by what Vardy did.
