Amazon announces an upcoming co-op game and we already got our hands on it

IT’S Gamescom Opening Night Live, and that means that the biggest publishers are announcing their upcoming games.

Amazon entered into the video game industry with Amazon Games and just announced a new co-op game for its library.

The absurdly named King of Meat is an upcoming co-op game where up to four people team up to hack ‘n’ slash their way through dungeons.

We had a chance to try out the game just before it was announced at Gamescom.

It relies heavily on a large active community which can be an uphill battle in an era with so many live-service games vying for our attention.

Even major releases, like Foamstars and Skull and Bones, have struggled to capture an audience.

King of Meat hopes to bust through the sea of bland live-service games and copy-paste hero shooters.

It has a nostalgic feel to it, where a group of friends team up together to explore dungeons, take down enemies and grab loot.

The catch is that the dungeons are designed by other players giving a creative twist on community games.

King of Meat’s team promises an in-depth dungeon creator with tools to create puzzles, platforming and combat challenges.

This should mean the game has a more harmonious community than your usual live-service shooter as it’s all about collaboration rather than competition.

There will be dev-made levels when the game launches, but the designer should be easy enough that anyone can make levels without any experience.

After your team completes a level, you’ll be able to rate it so that there is better quality control on user-generated content.

Aside from completing dungeons, players can also gain multipliers, which will reward those who want to tackle the game strategically.

It’s an easy-to-play, difficult-to-master system, where anyone can complete a dungeon, but you’ll be better rewarded if you engage with the systems.

King of Meat will have an up-front price, but also live-service elements to give it longevity but it isn’t clear what these will be yet.

We think this is what the game will hinge on, as players will likely be scared away if it’s seen as predatory.
