J.D. Vance ridiculed as joke aimed at Tim Walz backfires on Trump

Political observers on social media are encouraging Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) to stop telling jokes because they keep failing to work for him.

Multiple onlookers immediately guessed that he meant Donald Trump.

"Nice of Trump to help Vance with debate prep," joked Jeopardy! champion Hemant Mehta.

"J.D. Vance confirms Donald Trump is helping him with debate prep," The Nation's legal analyst Elie Mystal mocked. The Lincoln Project wrote, "The friend" and posted an unflattering photo of Trump.

"How can you be Donald Trump’s running mate and say this without recognizing what a massive self-own it will be and…oh, I forgot it’s JD Vance, nvm," grumbled USA Today humorist Rex Huppke.

Geonn Cannon, author of LGBTQ fiction, looked at it as a campaign staff failure.

"I can't imagine there was any handler who told him it was a good idea to say he's friends with liars in an attempt to poke Walz. No one can be that stup-- god, look who we're talking about," Cannon laughed.
