Patriots Claim Wide Receiver; Announce Four Roster Moves

The Patriots didn't have practice Tuesday, but that doesn't mean they took the day off.

New England announced four roster moves; claiming wide receiver Matt Landers off waivers from the Cleveland Browns, placing rookie wide receiver JaQuae Jackson on injured reserve and signing pass-rushers Kobe Jones and Christian McCarroll.

Jones' addition was first reported by Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald.

Landers, 25, has bounced around quite a bit since first entering the NFL in 2023 -- and even before that. The Arkansas/Georgia/Toledo alum has played for five professional football organizations in the last couple years; first the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers, then the Arlington Renegades and San Antonio Brahmas of the UFL, then the Cleveland Browns. He was released by Cleveland on Aug. 19, 2024.

The Patriots had space for a wide receiver after Jackson went down with an injury in last Thursday's preseason matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jones, 26, is the definition of a journeyman, spending time with the Atlanta Falcons, Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans, Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers since entering the NFL in 2021 -- appearing in just two games total.

McCarroll, 25, played college football at Grand Valley State -- the same school that former Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon attended. Coincidence? Yes, probably, but he was a consensus All-American last season and could be a candidate for the practice squad.
