United have now 'decided against' signing 24-year-old star before deadline - The Athletic

Manchester United have no plans of signing a new left-back before the transfer deadline.

The Red Devils currently have Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia as their specialist left-back options, but both are injured at the moment.

Shaw is out until the international break with a calf injury while Malacia has no return date. He is nursing a long-term knee concern.

The absence of the duo has led to suggestions that United could sign a new left-back, but The Athletic claim that won’t happen.

The Red Devils have ‘decided against’ a new option, thereby ruling out a move for Fenerbahce’s Ferdi Kadioglu this summer.

The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with United through Turkish sources, but The Athletic report that a deal is not on the cards.

Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez are among makeshift choices for United at left-back until Shaw returns.

United have made right decision

The Red Devils faced a similar situation during the back end of last season. Dalot had to fill the void and managed a credible job.

The Portuguese was entrusted with the same role against Fulham last weekend. He had a rough start against Adama Traore, but made amends soon after.

In our view, the hierarchy have made the right decision to stick with their current options.

Kadioglu is a very talented full-back, but the club can’t afford to spend £30 million up front on him, considering the need for a marquee holding midfielder.

Casemiro has started the season brightly for United, but the Brazilian continues to struggle with his positioning and has the knack for losing possession.

The club need an upgrade in the number six role. Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte seems the main target and United should concentrate on signing him.
