Alicia Silverstone Confirms She's 'Alive & Well' After Eating Poisonous Berry In England

Alicia Silverstone is sharing a health update after trying an unknown berry on TikTok.

The 47-year-old actress posted a video of her trying a berry that she didn’t know what it was, asking others to help in identifying the fruit.

“What the heck is this!? I’m in England and can’t figure it out. ????” she captioned the clip on Monday (August 19).

“Okay, I’ve discovered something that I can’t figure out what it is and I need your help,” Alicia says before showing the berry. “I just bit into it because it was on the street and we were discussing whether this was a tomato or not.”

In her video after biting one on camera, she even admits, “I don’t think you’re supposed to eat this.”

Many showed concern in the comments and across social media.

On Tuesday (August 20), she posted an update, confirming she is “Alive and well! Don’t worry… I didn’t swallow ????????”

The berry in question has been identified as a Jerusalem cherry, or Solanum pseudocapsicum as it’s scientific name. It is a nightshade species with mildly poisonous fruit and is actually native to Peru and Ecuador.

However, it is often grown as decorative house plants, but in places like South Africa, India, Australia and New Zealand, it is regarded as a weed.
