Congressman Clay Higgins encourages community discussion at town hall meeting

NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY)-- Congressman Clay Higgins held a town hall meeting Tuesday where he invited the public to engage in conversations about issues and questions they may have.

Higgins said during the meeting, which was held at Magnolia Square in New Iberia, that town hall meetings are important to him because it's important to "talk about the challenges of our country."

He invited people to talk about issues, concerns and any questions they may have as a way to guide conversations on different and difficult topics. Topics including elections, policies and immigration were brought up.

"We encourage immigration from across the border… legal immigration," Higgins said.

Even questions were asked about the recent task force created to investigate the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Higgins responded by detailing how he was appointed by House Speaker Mike Johnson to investigate the task force.

Higgins released his six-page preliminary investigative report last week. A copy of that report can be found HERE.

Higgins, during the town hall meeting Tuesday, reiterated the importance of being able to have open and honest conversations with the community, as it's a way he gets to serve his constituents.

"I'm an American and I have a right to my opinion. So, as I express my view of things up here tonight, please don't be offended by my views if it doesn't precisely match yours. I still love you and respect you," he said.
