Pakistani health officials have reported the fifteenth confirmed case of polio in the country’s Balochistan province.

Pakistani media reported on Wednesday, August 21, that a new polio case was identified in the Kharan district of Balochistan in a 23-month-old child.

According to the Pakistani health department, the child contracted the disease fifteen days ago and passed away two weeks later on Monday.

Last week, Pakistani media also reported a new polio case in the Qilla Saifullah district of Balochistan.

Notably, most polio cases since the beginning of this year have been reported in Balochistan, bringing the total to 12 cases.

Meanwhile, Pakistani health officials have repeatedly expressed concern about the rising number of polio cases in the country and have emphasized the need to strengthen child vaccination campaigns.

Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only two countries in the world where polio has not been eradicated and continues to claim the lives of children.

The continued occurrence of polio cases in Balochistan, along with the tragic loss of young lives, underscores the critical need for sustained and enhanced vaccination efforts.

Despite global advancements in eradicating polio, the persistent presence of the disease in Pakistan and Afghanistan highlights significant public health challenges that must be addressed through coordinated international efforts and local initiatives.
