As a result, Jason is left fighting to return to his ordinary life – and stop the alternate version of himself taking over his family.

The story is adapted from a hit novel of the same name, written by New York Times bestseller Blake Crouch.

Meanwhile, the show premiered on May 8 and its nine-episode first series concluded on June 26.

Author and showrunner Blake addressed his show’s imminent return in a statement.

He shared: “Thanks to everyone who tuned-in for season one — book fans and new fans — and of course our partners at Apple and Sony, my amazing producing partner, Matt Tolmach, our tremendous cast and crew, and the great city of Chicago — you were so good to us.”

Australian actor and filmmaker Joel Edgerton plays Jason Dessen.

The 50-year-old is well-known for portraying Owen Lars, adoptive uncle to Luke Skywalker, in the Star Wars prequel films.

During his career, Joel has been nominated for a Golden Globe and won the AACTA Award for Best Lead Actor in a Television Drama.

In addition, Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Connelly stars as Daniela Dessen, Jason’s wife.

Jennifer, 53, won the prestigious Academy Award for Best Supporting actress for her role as real-life physicist Alicia Nash in 2001’s A Beautiful Mind.

She has been married to fellow actor Paul Bettany, 53, since 2003 and they have two children together.

Jennifer’s other projects include The Incredible Hulk and Top Gun: Maverick, as well as the series Snowpiercer.

Also among the cast is actor Jimmi Simpson, playing the role of Ryan Holder in Dark Matter.

Jimmi, 48, has enjoyed an acclaimed career with BAFTA, Primetime Emmy and Screen Actors Guild nominations.

His most notable roles include playing William in dystopian sci-fi drama Westworld, and a recurring part in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

In 2017, he appeared in USS Callister, an episode of hit anthology series Black Mirror – and the first to get a sequel.

The remainder of Dark Matter’s main cast includes Alice Braga, Dayo Okeniyi and Oakes Fegley.

Series one of Dark Matter is available to stream on Apple TV+.
