LAGOS DSVA ORGANISES MARKET FIESTA AT JAKANDE MARKET, ISOLO

Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has reiterated its commitment to minimise Gender-Based Violence through timely, strategic and behavioural mindset programmes, campaigns and training of all relevant stakeholders as it held its “Men wey sabi” for traders and residents of Jakande Market in Isolo recently. 

The Executive Secretary of DSVA, Mrs.Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, represented by the Head of Community Engagement, Mr. Damilare Adewusi, stated that the Agency’s awareness programme was fashioned to educate people on Gender stereotypes in Lagos.

Re-echoing the importance of collectively taking responsibility for women’s empowerment, the Executive Secretary enjoined the market leaders and market traders of the Jakande Market to champion gender equality.

According to her, the sensitisation is designed to address men’s pivotal roles in ending domestic and sexual violence in the State and promoting partnership in marriages.

The campaign’s high point was the cooking competition, sponsored by Power Oil Nigeria Limited, to showcase men’s culinary skills. The primary objective of the competition is to continually spread the SGBV message in a spirited manner, challenging stereotypes regarding men’s involvement in childcare and the essence of marriage partnership.

The winner of the cooking competition, Mr. Emmanuel Osho, appreciated the Agency for bringing the initiative to the Jakande Market, Isolo, adding that the campaign is a huge call to men to partner with their spouses.

Other Participants who competed in the cooking competition were Mr. Sanni Adekunle, Mr. Emmanuel Osho, Mr. Akinyele Oluwaseun, Mr. Saidi Adisa and Mr. Olaniyi Animasaun.
