NJ Congressman Bill Pascrell dies at 87

NEW JERSEY (PIX11) -- U.S. Representative Bill Pascrell, who represented New Jersey's Ninth District, has died at the age of 87, his family announced via X Wednesday.

"As our United States Representative, Bill fought to his last breath to return to the job he cherished and to the people he loved," his family wrote.

Pascrell, a Paterson native, was first elected to Congress in 1996. Before that, he served as a State Assemblyman and the Mayor of Patterson.

"He is now at peace after a lifetime devoted to our great nation America," Pascrell's family said.

Many elected officials took to social media to share their sadness.

"I am heartbroken. I’m also in shock. Few people I’ve ever met had more energy and vigor. Bill was a great person, legislator, and friend," said Congressman Brendan Boyle, who represents Philadelphia.
