Bentancur’s injury woes continue

There is one player who just cannot seem to catch a break when it comes to injury issues: Rodrigo Bentancur.

The Uruguayan suffered a brutal ACL injury back in February 2023 during a game against Leicester City. He returned in October 2023, a little earlier than expected. But, he suffered another injury to his ankle ligaments in March of this year that saw him miss a further six games.

Now, Bentancur has already encountered issues in the first game of the new season, after going down with a head injury in the match against Leicester on Monday night.

He was down for a good ten minutes before being carried off on a stretcher. His manager, Ange Postecoglou, confirmed after the game that Bentancur had shown positive signs of recovery and was sitting up and talking (Mirror).

Speaking to Medios Publicos, Bentancur’s advisor, Daniel Fernandez has insisted the midfielder should be back in action sooner rather than later.

But, he has also revealed his client will be undergoing a scan soon to try and assess his overall condition and try to avoid any further injuries this season.

He told Buysan: “These negative situations have been haunting him. They are going to do a preventive scan, but he is stable. At that same stage, he injured his knee in 2023.”

When will Rodrigo Bentancur return for Tottenham?

It looks likely that Rodrigo Bentancur will not feature for Tottenham again until September. The Sun reveal that Premier League protocols state that a concussion substitute should be rested for at least a week after the incident.

As Tottenham’s match against Leicester took place on Monday, that should rule Bentancur out of Saturday’s fixture against Everton.

Therefore, it seems likely that Bentancur will not be in action again until September 1 when Spurs face a tough away trip to Newcastle United.

Postecoglou could call on Yves Bissouma to replace Bentancur against Everton, or turn to his younger stars like Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall.

Spurs Web Opinion

I just wouldn’t risk Bentancur at the weekend, to be honest. If he was concussed on Monday, he could aggravate the issue more by playing too soon, and we’ve got options who can step in anyway.
