Local senior living center begins renovation project

GLENVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Holiday Glenville, a senior independent living community, has started renovating and upgrading its living center to foster social connections between residents. The million-dollar capital investment in the community's function and appearance is geared toward enabling residents to live their lives to the fullest.

Improvements include an enlarged fitness room and upgrades to the living room, game lounge, dining room, library, and atrium. The facility will also invest in energy-efficient lighting, audio and visual capabilities, and exterior enhancements.

According to a recent NORC study at the University of Chicago, independent living communities are insusceptible to declining health in older adults. The study also mentioned essential factors for positive health outcomes in older adults linked to accessibility to social engagement, nutrition, and fitness.

Holiday Glenville General Manager Daniel Nagle said the renovations and upgrades feel like an extreme makeover, creating relationships between residents and encouraging them to be active. "We know that living in a vibrant, social community like ours can translate to greater well-being in older adults," Nagle said.

With the upgrades, residents will have more reasons to gather and socialize. The improvement project is expected to be completed this winter.
