THREE key routes used by thousands of motorists are set to shut over the bank holiday weekend.
The closures may spark travel chaos and could impact those hoping to get to and from Heathrow Airport.
The M25, the M3 and the A3 are all undergoing major construction works which could impact your journey.
The beginning of the bank holiday week will see a myriad of closures, particularly on link roads to other busy highways like the M40.
This could impact those driving to and from Heathrow Airport, or into Surrey and London.
Fortunately for drivers there appears to be minimal overnight road closure throughout the bank holiday weekend.
This means travelling late at night or early in the morning during the weekend should run relatively smoothly.
To prepare for closures check the list below.
Road closures on bank holiday monday
M25
- M25 clockwise and anticlockwise closure to the M40 southbound link road near Uxbridge. Closure in place from 10pm until 6am the following morning
- M25 clockwise closure between junction 10 and 11 near Wisley and Chertsey. Closure in place from 10pm until 5.30am the following morning
- M25 anticlockwise closure between junction 9 and 8 near Leatherhead and Reigate. Closure in place from 10pm and 5.30am the following morning
- M25 clockwise closure to the M23 northbound and southbound link road near Gatwick. Closure in place from 10pm until 5am the following morning
M3
- M3 southbound closure from junction 4a to junction 5 near Camberley and Fleet. Closure in place from 9pm until 6am the following morning
- M3 westbound closure from junction 2 between exit and entry slip roads near Thorpe. Closure in place from 10pm until 5am the following morning
A3
- A3 northbound closure at the Hindhead Tunnel entry slip road. Closure in place from 9pm until 6am the following morning
- A3 northbound closure at the Wisley exit slip road. Closure in place from 10pm until 5.30am the following morning
- A3 eastbound closure at Painshill Park exit slip road. Closure in place fro 10pm until 6am the following morning
It comes as staff at London City Airport are threatening to walk out – for the first time ever sparking fears for more travel chaos.
Ground handling staff face going on strike at the UK airport over a dispute in regards to pay.
The 120 Gatwick Ground Services (GSS) staff members, represented by the GMB union, are not directly employed by the airport.
However, they are demanding a 17 per cent pay increase, who claim current pay falling below the London Living Wage.
If the strike goes ahead, it will be the first of its kind for the airport.
GMB regional organiser Daren Parmenter told Travel Weekly: “Our members are very angry and upset.
“They work in central London and every other employer at London City pays the London Living Wage. GGS [Gatwick Ground Services] don’t pay anywhere near it.
“They need to uplift our members pay by 17 per cent to be on a par with Gatwick.”
He added that staff at London Gatwick have better pay, despite not being in the capital city.
He said: “It would close the airport if they took strike action.”
