Driver who allegedly killed woman crossing the street in North Hollywood is arrested

Detectives have arrested a driver who allegedly killed a young woman in a hit-and-run in North Hollywood last week, police said.

Van Nuys resident Oleg Bocharov, 50, fatally struck the woman on Friday, Aug. 16 as she crossed the street at the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Beck Avenue, according to a Los Angeles Police Department news release. She was identified through her family’s GoFundMe as Leyda Medina.

Bocharov drove off in his Toyota Corolla without rendering aid and later abandoned along Victory Avenue, east of Troost Avenue, according to police. He was arrested Tuesday and booked on suspicion of felony hit and run causing death.

It was not immediately known whether drugs or alcohol were involved, or if Bocharov had been speeding or ran a red light.

“I’m struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of my wife, but I’m finding solace in the outpouring of support and love that she received from everyone around her,” Medina’s husband, Keven, wrote on the fundraising page. “As the reality of her passing sets in, I’m filled with fear, but I’m determined to keep her legacy alive and make her proud.”
