FBI investigates claim saboteurs spiked Democratic delegates' hotel breakfast with insects

The FBI is investigating after a report that unknown saboteurs put insects into a hotel breakfast prepared for delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

According to USA Today, the convention's information team put out a statement saying, "Multiple unknown female offenders are alleged to have entered a building...and began placing unknown objects onto tables containing food. The offenders are believed to have then left the area. One victim was treated and released on-scene."

Witnesses to the incident, which reportedly occurred at the Fairmount Hotel which was hosting delegates from Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio, Missouri and South Dakota, said the women appeared to be spiking the food with insects, although sources disagree on exactly what kind they were. Some said crickets, while others said it was maggots.

Indiana delegate Karen Tallian, a former state senator, told reporters, "We were all coming down to breakfast, and there were these two women who had hidden themselves in the bathroom. And they ran out and threw maggots into the breakfast buffet."

No group has claimed responsibility for the incident, but it resembles a similar one at the Watergate Hotel in D.C. last month during the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in which someone also released insects.

Bomb threats have also reportedly been called in against multiple hotels where delegates are staying.

Protests have also been held around the convention by demonstrators demanding an end to the war against the Hamas terrorist organization in Gaza, which has resulted in horrific death tolls for Palestinian civilians as Israeli troops try to remove Hamas from power and free hostages seized in the October 7 terrorist attack.

While these protests have so far not been as large as originally predicted, tensions have flared, with protesters clashing with police in Chicago.
