'My advisers are fired': Trump jokingly cans campaign team members after polling audience

Former President Donald Trump informally polled rally-goers in North Carolina on Wednesday on whether he should listen to his most senior advisers. The answer was a resounding no.

Then he jokingly fired them.

In a commentary about former President Barack Obama being "nasty" in his Democratic convention speech, Trump said he tries to "be nice to people."

"It's a little tough when they get personal," Trump said.

He then parroted his staff's advice to him.

"'Please, sir, please, again, don't get personal. Talk about policy,'" Trump recalled them saying.

That's when he polled supporters: "Here are the two questions: Should I get personal? Should I not get personal?"

The audience cheered for Trump when he suggested that he get personal.

"I don't know. My advisers are fired," Trump said.

Trump's MAGA base has been after Trump's campaign leaders for the past several weeks as his polls continue to slide.

Trump's campaign has reportedly been in disagreement over whether he should attack Kamala Harris as "weak" and "liberal" rather than go after her race and other personal attacks.

On Tuesday, the right-leaning Daily Mail published a report claiming Trump was furious with his team over Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) being chosen as the running mate, who has faced relentless attacks from opponents as being "weird."

The report claimed Trump was considering firing his campaign managers, Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles. The campaign responded that the report was false.

"Nah, we'd rather keep it on policy," Trump said at the rally, implying he had been joking. "But it's hard when you're attacked from all ends."
