Why Patriots Opted For Recent Change To Michael Onwenu Duties
Among a unit that's heavily struggled, Mike Onwenu represents a standing bright spot on the offensive line for the New England Patriots.
Onwenu really emerged last season once he found a home at right tackle for the Patriots and held strong on that side of the line.
As New England continuously shuffles units and players in at the struggling group, Onwenu's had outlooks at both guard and tackle.
Where does head coach Jerod Mayo currently envision Onwenu after recently playing tackle in practice?
"I would say, look, we always, as coaches, reserve the right to change our mind," Mayo told reporters on Wednesday, per team-provided transcript. "I just don't want that to get misconstrued in any way. But that was the plan initially. Then, as we continue to build depth amongst the offensive line, we had to move those guys around."
The Patriots get a final preseason chance to shuffle the line in game action when they visit the Washington Commanders on Sunday night.
