Drivers react to current road conditions in Topeka

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Potholes are always a hot topic of conversation in Topeka.

Typically, the city has four patch crews out working every day. However, Wednesday, Aug. 21, they only had one out. That's because the other three were working on storm cleanup.

With crews out on the daily trying to fix up roads in the capitol city, we asked Topeka drivers what they think about the current condition of the roads.

"I think they're pretty awful, um yeah, I've had my car aligned twice because I hit so many holes, it's terrible," Marcia Hart said.

"I think they're honestly pretty bad," Latrell Llamas said. "They could use a lot of work. I know they, a lot of times they, messed up my tires a few times."

Wednesday afternoon, potholes were being filled on 29th street near Fairlawn. Year to date, the city has filled over 37,000 potholes. That's including 285 potholes last week alone. While Latrell Llamas doesn't like the roads in Topeka, he says he does see the improvements the city makes.

"I've seen improvements," He said. "A lot of the roads, main roads I usually take to go to work every day, definitely got filled up."

Although Marcia Hart says otherwise

"It doesn't seem like to me they are," Hart said. "My area is still, it's pretty bad."

According to the city, they currently have 30 open pothole work orders. The time frame for filling these potholes vary depending on severity.
