What’s on this weekend

Another weekend is approaching and it is going to be an eventful one. Wherever you are on the island, there is something to do this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Here is a selection of the hottest and biggest events.

The Paphos Medieval Castle Square transforms into an impressive beer hotspot as it hosts the newest edition of Paphos Beer Fest. For four consecutive days (from Thursday to Sunday), over 35 beers and breweries will serve ice-cold craft beer and lagers while about a dozen food stands cook up burgers, pizzas, tacos, hot dogs, fish plates and more. What’s more, live entertainment will be on every day with ten acts taking the stage. Local bands, DJs, radio stations and artists will perform live, adding to the festival’s summer party mood. But that’s not all, beer games and striking fire shows will also take place every day.

Also happening in Paphos, in the village of Gialia, is the 24th Paradise Jazz Festival which will welcome back Cyprus’ most esteemed jazz musicians joining forces with international legends. Happening at Val’s Place this Friday and Saturday, a highlight of the festival will be David Garfield’s performance, a renowned jazz musician from the US who will perform alongside Cypriot artists. Six shows plus two jam sessions make up this year’s programme, all held in an intimate setting.

Over at Xyliatos Dam, a different kind of festival will take place this Sunday. The Environment Sorry! Festival organised by Green Shield will take place in nature with a series of physical activities and an entertainment programme. Hiking, cycling and a marathon run will kick off at 1am culminating at 1pm at the picnic area of the dam with dance and theatre, games, activities for children and live music. A food buffet will be served for a small free supporting the You Reforest Cyprus programme.

Cinephiles and antique car lovers will also have something special to enjoy. The Idalion Classic Car Club organises the Classic Car Drive In Cinema event this Sunday on the outskirts of Nicosia with a retro car exhibition and party between 6pm and 8pm and a screening of the 1978 film Grease at 8.30pm. Priority to the drive-in cinema will be given to classic cars yet depending on availability other cars might be allowed in as well. In any case, viewers can still enjoy the movie without a car.
