Tim Walz leans into 'Coach Walz' at DNC: 'It's the 4th quarter — we're down a field goal'

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz leaned into "Coach Walz" as he wrapped up his speech on night three of the Democratic National Convention.

Concluding his speech on Wednesday night, Walz said he's "given a lot of pep talks." It's the fourth quarter, he said, and "we're down a field goal."

"But we've got the offense and we've got the ball. And we're driving down the field. And we've got the right team," he said.

As a former state champion, Walz said it's time for everyone watching to "get in the trenches and do the blocking and tackling," a football reference meaning it's time for Democrats to get to work on electing Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.

As the crowd burst into cheers, he continued, "one inch at a time! One yard at a time. One phone call at a time. One door knock at a time. One five-dollar donation at a time."

Walz noted there are 76 days until the election.

"That's nothing — there'll be time to sleep when you're dead. We're going to leave it on the field! That's how we'll keep moving forward. That's how we'll turn the page on Donald Trump. That's how we'll build a country where workers come first."
