Flooding kills 10 and injuries 8 in Afghanistan
Recent floods have inundated parts of the capital and several provinces, with the National Disaster Management Authority reporting 10 fatalities and 8 injuries due to the deluge in Kabul and other areas.
Officials of the National Disaster Management Authority stated that severe rainfall caused flooding in Kabul and other provinces yesterday.
This, coupled with the adverse effects of climate change, resulted in both human casualties and significant financial damage.
In addition, the main road from Panjshir was initially blocked due to flooding in the Anaba district but has since been reopened to traffic.
The Meteorological Department of the Ministry of Transport and Aviation had previously warned of heavy rainfall, flash floods, thunderstorms, and strong winds with dust across 16 provinces.
The department’s notice predicted rainfall and flooding on August 21 in the provinces of Badakhshan, Takhar, Baghlan, Nuristan, Kunar, Nangarhar, Laghman, Panjshir, Kapisa, Parwan, Kabul, Logar, Maidan Wardak, Paktia, Khost, and Paktika.
Heavy rains, floods, and storms across various provinces have led to numerous fatalities and extensive financial damage.
The continued impacts of severe weather highlight the urgent need for improved disaster preparedness and response measures to mitigate the effects of such natural disasters.
