Man in custody for kiosk robbery linked to four other cases

A six-day remand order has been issued against the 27-year-old who was arrested on Wednesday for robbing a kiosk in Limassol.

Testimonies against him regarding four other recent cases of theft in Limassol have been obtained by the police.

The suspect was taken before the Limassol district court on Thursday and a six-day remand order was issued.

According to the police, the robbery was committed on Tuesday night and the complainant reported that the perpetrator was a young man, naked from the waist up, who entered a kiosk and began grabbing products from the shelves, some of which he put down his trousers.

In an attempt to prevent the thief from leaving, the 23-year-old employee locked the door, when the man allegedly assaulted him with a plastic rod.

The employee visited the Limassol general hospital, where he was treated for injuries to his hands.

The thief then managed to unlock the door and escape, grabbing three cartons of cigarettes from a shelf next to the cash register on his way out.

The 27-year-old was arrested on Wednesday, after police secured the testimony against him.
