The Gen Z home trends you’ll regret & why they scream ‘tacky’ according to an interior designer – & your bows have to go

INTERIOR trends come and go, and what’s most important in any home is that you love your space.

But that doesn’t mean you won’t come to regret a few current trends Gen Z love, at least according to this expert.

An Interior designer from The Havenly recently shared some of styles we all know all love right now, but will be a huge ick when we look back in a few years.

Although every generation has trends that are pretty cringey to look back at, from the hanging Polaroids and tapestries of Millennials, to the Tuscan-style kitchens Gen X loved.

But Gen Z are ahead of the game with their love of certain trends, and they might just be regretting them in record time.

Here are three of the biggest interior trends you are sure to regret, according to the pro.

Bows

Call it coquette, call it cute, the bow trend has taken over recently.

But as far as the pro is concerned having bows on everything from candles to bedding and plant pots might be a bit too much.

She explained that although bows themselves are “timeless” and can always in incorporated into any space in a tasteful manner, the current obsession can come off as “tacky”.

“The oversaturation of bows in your home can start to feel a little bit much and can make it look a little bit tacky,” she said.

Checkerboard

It always a good idea to incorporate a pattern into your home in way way or another, but overdoing the checkboard trend is a big no-no.

You can get just about anything in a checkboard print, from chairs, rugs and pillows, to shower curtains and photo frames.

“Checkerboard will go down in history as the chevron of Gen Z,” the pro said.

So maybe limit the print to one or two pieces in your home your really love, and make sure to spread them out.

Food designs

You might think it’s cute right now, but that stool that looks like a strawberry will make you cringe down the line, according to the interior designer.

And it’s not just that, you can buy just about anything with either a food print or that’s made to look like food itself.

Whether it’s a doughnut, lemon, cake, pasta or cherries – foodifying you furniture and home accessories is easy to over-do.

“It makes your space fun and quirky,” she explained.

But too many of these trendy pieces can loose that fun vibe and instead look chaotic and messy.
