People are raging I got the council to fit a new kitchen – trolls say I ‘popped out kids’ to get upgrades, they’re wrong
A WOMAN has hit back at trolls who claim she popped out babies to get a council home.
Naomi Wells, from the UK, does in fact live in a council home, but trolls couldn’t have been more wrong about her circumstances.
Naomi revealed how she really got a council house[/caption] People were quick to claim she had kids to get a council house quicker[/caption] But the reality couldn’t be further from the truth[/caption]Taking to social media one person left Naomi a comment that read: “You have things that people who work 9-5 don’t have, that’s what bugs people, all because you have a baby or got pregnant?”
Naomi had recently shared a video of the new kitchen the council had fitted into her home for free which sparked the controversy.
What trolls forgot to note is that councils are required to replace kitchens and bathrooms every 20 years (depending on the borough) to make sure it is safe and up to date.
Furious with the stigma that comes with living in a council house, Naomi responded in a video.
She said: “Because I live in a council house, you have come to the conclusion that I must not work, which is completely untrue.”
Hitting back, Naomi revealed how she never actually got pregnant as she struggle to conceive, but ended up taking in her niece and nephew in.
She explained: “Unfortunately I am unable to conceive children.
“What I did do seven years ago was save my niece and nephew from adoption.”
At the time they were 8 years old and 18 months old, and the selfless woman took them in as her own and gave up her privately rented flat for a bigger property to house them.
She went back into private renting at a bigger house, but was told she couldn’t work as part of the fostering agreement to make sure the children got the right care and support.
With her rent going up and the cost of looking after two kids, they had no money left by the end of the month.
She was than told her landlord was selling up, and couldn’t find affordable private rent so went to the council where she got her now home.
Naomi continued: “I have spent so much time, effort and money on this property to make it our home.
“And none of which came from handouts from the council or anybody else.”
How to do your council house up on the cheap
- Take inspiration from pricier shops and head to B&M, Home Bargains for interior decorations.
- Head to YouTube for easy to follow tutorials on how to decorate rather than paying for professionals.
- For a quick glow-up for your floors or anywhere with tiles, opt for stick-on vinyl to save on costs.
- A lick of paint does wonders to make a room feel brand-new.
- Switch out kitchen cupboard knobs for modern ones instead of buying brand-new cupboards
The woman showed off the work she had done to her house but revealed that the council had only provided fencing around the garden and the new kitchen.
The clip was shared to her TikTok account @naomilouisewells24 where it went viral with over 39k views and 4,000 likes.
