SKY has warned customers that its streaming app will no longer work on certain iPhones very soon.

Sky Go allows subscribers to watch channels live and download shows at no extra cost.

It’s available on a number of platforms, including iPhone, Android and consoles like Xbox and PS5.

But the broadcaster has decided to drop the app for an older version of iOS.

After September 17, Sky Go will stop working on devices running iOS 12.

iOS 12 was released by Apple back in September 2018, so the vast majority of customers should be unaffected by the move.

Data by Statista from February suggests that only 1.3 per cent of Apple devices still run iOS 12.

If you’re still using iOS 12 you should have updated to iOS 13 and beyond ages ago for the latest features and security fixes that keep hackers away.

“To ensure we provide the best possible experience to Sky Go customers, from time to time, we stop supporting older operating system versions,” Sky explained on its website.

“Users who are on this iOS version won’t be able to use the Sky Go app after this date.”

iPhone models that aren’t able to update to iOS 13 or later are:

  • iPhone 5S or older
  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPod Touch (6th generation) or older

The move will affect iPads too, so the Sky Go app on the following models will stop working:

  • iPad Mini 2
  • iPad Mini 3
  • First-generation iPad Air

SKY BOX UPGRADE

It’s not the only bit of old tech Sky is shifting from at the moment.

The firm is preparing to switch off its SD (standard definition) satellite broadcasts next month.

This means anyone with an older Sky box will no longer receive Sky’s channels.
