Be part of the upcoming Xarkis Festival
Another festival is planned this summer, focusing on collaborative art and research practices, unearthing cultural heritage and tradition. The newest edition of Xarkis Festival will take place between September 13 and 15 in old Nicosia exploring the theme of Unearthing Care: Ecologies of Collaboration. As the team prepares for a packed agenda of performances, installations, exhibitions and activities, an open call for volunteers has launched.
“It takes a village to make this festival happen, and a dedicated, passionate team of volunteers supporting the work of our staff,” say organisers. “We are looking for individuals to help us make the 11th Xarkis Festival one to remember.”
The volunteers’ time commitment will be from September 9 to 16, to cover a part of the Xarkis Artist Multi-Residency Programme, which will take place a few days before the festival begins. Volunteers will choose how many days they can assist the team and will each be assigned a position, based on their personal interests, time and skills, falling under these categories: technical support, communication, hospitality, sustainability, kitchen support, design/preparation of spatial experience.
For those travelling from outside Nicosia for the festival, Xarkis will cover travel expenses as well as food and accommodation. All backgrounds, genders, ethnicities and ages are welcome to apply by Saturday by sending a CV and a letter of interest at xarkis.hd@gmail.com.
For the rest, attendees will get to enjoy the festival and explore its artists and creations in mid-September which this year are linked to participatory practices and have a sense of ‘Cypriotness’, all through a feminist and women-led lens.
