Troy man sentenced to 34 years to life in Albany murder trial

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Tyshaun Purvis, 33, of Troy was sentenced to 34 years to life in state prison in Albany County Court Thursday morning. This sentencing follows a nearly two-week jury trial in May where Purvis was convicted of multiple charges, including second-degree murder for the killing of community activist Dominique Eley.

Charges

  • Second-degree murder
  • Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance

The indictment alleged that Purvis shot Dominique Eley multiple times in Albany in broad daylight, causing her death in July of 2022. Police say they found Eley on North Pearl Street with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.

Dominique’s friends have previously told NEWS10 that she was an active community member and an up-and-coming artist. She was well-known by the name Dom, Kay, or Kay Hollywood.
