Company shutting down central Ohio warehouse, laying off over 150 workers
CANAL WINCHESTER, Ohio (WCMH) – A Connecticut-based technology and shipping company with facilities across the United States is closing down a central Ohio warehouse, eliminating over 150 workers.
Pitney Bowes told the state it plans to close its global e-commerce warehouse in Canal Winchester, located at 6111 Bixby Road. This will result in the elimination of all jobs at the facility, totaling to 165 layoffs, according to the company.
A WARN notice filed with the state says layoffs are expected to begin on Oct. 8. Package handlers represent the majority of employees at the warehouse, followed by drivers and forklift operators.
Pitney Bowes announced on Aug. 8 that it sold a controlling interest in its global e-commerce segment to Hilco Commercial Industrial, a financial services company. The global e-commerce segment of the company has been struggling to turn a profit over the past several years, according to a Pitney Bowes news release.
The shipping company stated it expects the sale to eliminate all the losses associated with the global e-commerce segment, which totaled to about $136 million for the year at the end of Dec. 31, 2023.
Pitney Bowes did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
