Jack Schlossberg Is Having a Great Time at the DNC
Jack Schlossberg’s puzzling recent rise to prominence — first as a hot guy being silly and milking his status as a Kennedy on the internet, then as Vogue’s political correspondent for the 2024 election — culminated in his presence at the DNC this week, hanging out with Nancy Pelosi and even giving a speech on Tuesday (after spending the morning surfing). He spoke for just under two minutes and kept the focus primarily on his grandfather John F. Kennedy:
“President John F. Kennedy is my grandfather, and he’s my hero,” said Schlossberg, naming some of JFK’s major accomplishments and referencing perhaps his most famous quote: “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country,” which was widely considered a banger back when some of FDR’s social safety nets were still in place. “Tonight, JFK’s call to action is now ours to answer, because once again, the torch has been passed to a new generation — to a leader who shares my grandfather’s energy, vision, and optimism for our future. That leader is Vice-President Kamala Harris,” he said.
His speech was direct, sincere, and hopeful — a far cry from the time he filmed himself having a nonsensical conversation with himself. He wasn’t the only descendant of a popular Democratic president of yore to speak (Jimmy Carter’s grandson Jason Carter did too). But I’m still having a hard time wrapping my head around how Schlossberg went from twirling around on vacation, reciting Lord Byron on a Rip Stick, and singing Rihanna while wearing Bluey sunglasses to being the subject of fan cams at the DNC.
