Michael Anderson, Rodriguez-Twaiti set for October 12 at Prudential Center
“Slick” Michael Anderson will face an opponent to be named, while Emmanuel “Salserito” Rodriguez and Khalid Twaiti will face off in a bantamweight crossroads bout on October 12 at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
Anderson (24-3-1, 18 knockouts) of Newark will be fighting for the fourth time in his last five fights at Prudential Center, having knocked out Eudy Bernardo last December in 5 rounds at the home of the New Jersey Devils. The 43-year-old welterweight has won his last seven fights dating back five years.
In the co-featured bout, Rodriguez (15-2, 8 KOs) and Twaiti (13-0, 5 KOs) will meet in a ten-round bout with world ranking possibilities at stake. Rodriguez, 31, of Newark had previously been ranked before a pair of defeats derailed him. Since then the Puerto Rico raised Rodriguez has won two straight. Twaiti, 28, of Brooklyn, N.Y. trains out of Gleason’s Gym and is taking his first significant step-up in competition.
“This is what boxing is all about: fighters stepping up to take on challenges. It’s a true blessing to bring an event to Prudential Center. I’m more than happy for this opportunity. This event will be one to remember,” said promoter Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna of Rising Star Promotions.
“Prudential Center is very excited to partner with Rising Star Promotions to welcome some of the best boxing talent in New Jersey and the tri-state area for the biggest edition of Brick City Fight Night Series, to date” said Dylan Wanagiel, VP of Sports Properties & Special Events for Prudential Center. “We look forward to Saturday, October 12 which will be a night full of electrifying boxing action while continuing to celebrate the ‘Sweet Science’ in Brick City.”
Other bouts already matched include Terell Bostic (12-2, 2 KOs) of Wyandanch, N.Y. against Jersey City’s Michael Lee (10-3, 7 KOs) in an eight round junior welterweight bout.
The card will also feature a number of the region’s rising stars, including heavyweight prospect Kristian Prenga (15-1, 15 KOs), a hard hitting Albanian heavyweight now based in Edgewater, N.J., plus 2019 National Golden Gloves champion Anthony Johns (8-1, 6 KOs) of Newark and junior middleweight Jean Pierre Valencia (1-0, 1 KO) of Irvington, N.J. in separate bouts.
