Katie Holmes Has a Lot of Plans for Life as an Empty Nester After Dropping Suri off at College

Katie Holmes some new projects in the works after dropping daughter Suri Cruise off at college and joining the empty nester community!

The proud single mom, 45, was seen helping her 18-year-old daughter move into her new dorm at Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania on August 20, a bittersweet moment for any mom! But it looks like Holmes, who stayed predominately out of Hollywood since relocating to New York with her daughter after her divorce from Tom Cruise, is embracing this next phase.

The Dawson’s Creek alum is gearing up to make her return to the television screen with a new role in Peacock’s Poker Face as well as some other possible new ventures.

In July, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Holmes was one of several famous stars who will make guest appearances in season 2 of the comedy-mystery series that stars Natasha Lyonne. Kumail Nanjiani, Giancarlo Esposito and Gaby Hoffmann will also guest star.

Though Holmes has appeared in several movies in recent years, such writing, starring and directing in 2022’s Alone Together and 2023’s Rare Objects, this is her first television gig since her 2017 role as Jackie Kennedy in The Kennedys.

But, outside of acting, Holmes has suggested that she is open to other business ventures. In a June interview with The Sunday Times, Holmes revealed that she has no plans to relocate out of New York but is interested in a range of career moves, including launching her own skincare brand. “Absolutely, I would love to!” she told the outlet.

“I’d like to continue to write and direct my own films. Maybe write a few books — fiction.”

That said, all these big plans don’t mean that Holmes isn’t feeling the pang that many parents are feeling at this time of year. She opened up about Suri leaving the nest in an interview earlier this month saying, “Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy.”

“I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that.”
