Jim Jordan's ex-students turn up at DNC to attack him over claims he ignored sex abuse

As the Democratic National Convention unfolded in Chicago, a group gathered outside to protest Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), reported The New Republic. They included wrestlers who were coached by the congressman at Ohio State and who accuse him of overlooking extensive sexual abuse.

The protesters included former wrestlers Rocky Ratliff, Matt Reed, and Will Knight, who appeared at the event with Tamie Wilson, the long-shot Democratic candidate challenging Jordan in his deep-red district.

They gathered with placards that spelled out "FIRE JIM JORDAN."

Wilson hopes to introduce legislation she calls the Comprehensive Sexual Abuse Prevention and Accountability Act, which would seek to create new protections for student athletes — a group that research has shown is particularly vulnerable to predation.

Jordan chairs the powerful House Judiciary Committee, and played a role in the ill-fated impeachment efforts against President Joe Biden that concluded this month.

His time as a wrestling coach at OSU has been under scrutiny for years, as he reportedly failed to act as his athletes were sexually abused by the school doctor, Richard Strauss.

Similar protests cropped up last year when Jordan was in the running for speaker of the House following the ouster of former Rep. Kevin McCarthy.

“We’re all people with lives, and we’re just ordinary people trying to make a difference,” Ratliff told the New Republic.

“And [Wilson is] the only one that’s basically taking the bull by the horns and getting us those meetings and not letting them forget what happened at Ohio State, because everybody wants to forget it, including Ohio State.”

“All I do is try to tell the truth about Jim,” Knight told reporters. “He could have been a hero.”

He said that after Jordan was elected, "something happened to him" and he has since sought to use his power to discredit his former wrestlers who have come forward.
