“He has an issue” – Erik ten Hag confirms Man United star will miss Brighton match
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that his team will be without centre-back Victor Lindelof when they face Brighton at the weekend.
The Red Devils started their Premier League campaign with a win against Fulham in the opening match of the season.
Thanks to a late goal from new signing Joshua Zirkzee, the Premier League giants bagged three points to start their season in the perfect manner.
However, ten Hag has confirmed that centre-back Lindelof has an issue and he will be out of their match against Brighton on Saturday.
The Dutch manager told the official Man United website:
“There is no confusion, he has an issue on his toe. So hopefully he (Lindelof) can return quickly but he is not available for the weekend.”
It is another injury issue for the Red Devils, who have been unlucky with the fitness of their players for a very long time now.
The likes of Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro and Rasmus Hojlund are all currently out due to fitness issues.
Left-back Tyrell Malacia has suffered long term issues with his fitness while players like Lisandro Martinez and Mason Mount struggled to perform last season due to their constant problems with injuries.
Man United have increased depth in centre-back position
The Man United boss has been unlucky that he has to deal with so many injuries recently but despite not having Lindelof against Brighton, he has the option of playing Martinez, Harry Maguire or Matthijs de Ligt in the centre-back position.
After making clever signings this summer, the Red Devils squad now has depth and more quality as compared to last season.
Man United will be hoping to continue their perfect start with a win against Brighton at the weekend, who demolished Everton 3-0 in their opening match of the season.
Joshua Zirkzee is expected to be given his first Man United start after scoring the winning against Fulham in the opening match of the season.
