Beaconsfield City Council has approved the jury’s decision to choose the Lemay-Bouthillette Parizeau-Elema team to design a multifunctional cultural centre as part of the IMAGINE Centennial project.

At a meeting on July 15, Council mandated the administration to continue the process for the preparation of plans and specifications next fall.

Launched in 2018, the IMAGINE Centennial project resulted in nearly 200 citizens participating in six public consultation sessions in 2019.

In June of that year, a citizens’ committee, led by two elected officials, presented a report and made recommendations which guided the next steps, such as the hiring of architect Philippe Drolet in 2023 to oversee an architectural competition.

Financial support of $3.1 million was granted by the provincial and federal governments under the Cultural Infrastructure Development Assistance program, which allowed Beaconsfield to begin the revitalization of Centennial Park and Marina with the construction of a cultural centre estimated at approximately $18 million, plus taxes.

The architectural competition, which was a first for Beaconsfield, was held in two phases. A jury made up of professionals in the field was supported by a technical committee. The jury then met several times to recommend the winning team to the City Council.

The City acknowledges and thanks the 32 teams that submitted applications to the competition. The jury, co-chaired by Anne-Marie Parent and Gavin Affleck, chose four finalists in April, each with a unique architectural identity.

The finalists presented projects that respect the natural character of the site, highlight the riverside landscape and meet the needs of the various users during the public hearings.

The selected project fits into the picturesque landscape of Centennial Park and meets the recommendations of the Report on Public Consultations and Creative Workshops for the Revitalization of Centennial Park and the Lord Reading Property.
