The 79p Tesco item that’ll stop your car suffering irreparable damage in Storm Lilian chaos

A 79p Tesco item could protect your car from irreparable damage amid Storm Lilian chaos, it has been revealed.

The DIY trick can help envelope your motor in a protective shell and prevent a car-killing problem from developing.

The Met Office is predicting that Storm Lilian could batter Britain with winds of up to 80mph in the coming days.

These high winds have already led to flights being cancelled from several major airports.

However, drivers could also find themselves affected if their motors are left outside in the storm.

Graham Conway of Select Car Leasing warned: “While wind gusts of up to 80mph could be worrying for those hitting the roads for their bank holiday weekend these high winds could also carry salt from sea spray which can have a corrosive effect on cars.

“If your vehicle’s exterior is already in poor condition, you could be facing a hefty repair bill.

“Salt causes corrosion to paintwork and any exposed metal, leading to the onset of rust.

“Unfortunately, this process is quickly sped up if there is any pre-existing damage to your car’s shell.”

As such, drivers are encouraged to save their vehicles by covering them or making use of protective products like car wax.

Wax can be pricey, though, so cleaning expert Todd Bialaszewski, from Junk Car Medics, recommended a budget alternative.

He said: “Use a hair conditioner containing lanolin.

“It’ll give your car a freshly waxed look.”

Fortunately, hair conditioner is much cheaper, with bottles available from Tesco for as little as 79p.

It comes after an expert mechanic shared the free “squeeze and wiggle” test that can save you hundreds in seconds.
